The Friends of Historic Rochester is a local organization dedicated to preserving the historical and cultural heritage of the town of Rochester, a picturesque community located at the heart of Ulster County, New York.
Running from the Shawangunks to the Catskills, Rochester includes the historic hamlets of Accord and Alligerville, a good portion of Minnewaska State Park, and numerous small neighborhoods such as Kyserike, Palentown, Pine Bush and The Clove. Its history spans the canal era, the railroad era, and beyond, and its architecture ranges from Dutch stone houses to Borscht Belt bungalow colonies.
FHR seeks to promote appreciation of the region’s rich history. Founded in 1987, FHR now has a museum at 211 Main Street, Accord, which contains a large and varied collection of historic photos, artifacts, books, memorabilia, and historical and genealogical information.
